Additional Discoveries of Aboriginal Rock Carvings in Tasmania
نویسنده
چکیده
After several visits to the area rock workings were found on the southern slope of a high dolerite ridge known locally as "Billy Blue". They were ona large sand-stone rock measuring approximately sixty yards long and four yards wide. It faced west and was on the eastern bank of a creek bed which, though normally dry, has a permanent soakage at its mouth some fifty yards below the carved rock. At a distance of fifteen yards seawards from the main rock surface is a smaller one measuring about twenty feet square which has several carved figures on its upper surface. Some of these resemble kangaroo tracks while others are leaf-like depressions up to ten inches in length.

This study tests the feasibility of using Polynomial Texture Map (PTM) recording technology at Roughting Linn rock art site. Additionally, it examines the added value of incorporating PTM into the existing record of the rock carvings. Finally, it explores the application of PTM as a tool to enhance the understanding of cultural significance of the ancient site. A Polynomial Texture Map (PTM) is...

متن کاملBrief communication: the Australian Barrineans and their relationship to Southeast Asian negritos: an investigation using mitochondrial genomics.
The existence of a short-statured Aboriginal population in the Far North Queensland (FNQ) rainforest zone of Australia's northeast coast and Tasmania has long been an enigma in Australian anthropology. Based on their reduced stature and associated morphological traits such as tightly curled hair, Birdsell and Tindale proposed that these "Barrinean" peoples were closely related to "negrito" peop...
متن کاملInvestigation of Genetic Structure between Deep and Shallow Populations of the Southern Rock Lobster, Jasus edwardsii in Tasmania, Australia
The southern rock lobster, Jasus edwardsii, shows clear phenotypic differences between shallow water (red coloured) and deeper water (pale coloured) individuals. Translocations of individuals from deeper water to shallower waters are currently being trialled as a management strategy to facilitate a phenotypic change from lower value pale colouration, common in deeper waters, to the higher value...

Rock powder of dolomite samples from the Renison mine area of Tasmania, Australia were analyzed by electron paramagnentic resonance spectroscopy (EPR), Atomic Absorption and Mass Spectrometer to identify alteration related to mineralisation. The least-altered dolomite samples, which are not effected by circulation of diagenetic and hydrothermal fluids are characterised by low Mn and Fe and ...
